π About the Sepulveda Transit Corridor
Why Modified Alternative 5?
Direct UCLA access: Station at Gateway Plaza in the heart of campus - will be
Metro's busiest non-transfer station.
Strong ridership: Projected 122,000-137,000 daily riders, making it one of the
busiest subways in North America.
Seamless connections: Direct links to D Line, E Line, G Line, Metrolink, and
future East San Fernando Valley Light Rail.
Faster & more cost-effective: Wait times of only 2.5 minutes between trains.
Faster than driving, even without traffic. Serves more riders than other alternatives at a lower
cost.
Cost-effective: Extends light rail 4.5 miles from Redondo Beach to Torrance
Transit Center. Uses Metro-owned land, making it fiscally viable.
Faster to build: Can deliver service years sooner than alternatives. Projected
to serve 11,500 daily riders by 2042.
Community support: 73% of public comments prefer the ROW option.
Already funded: $619M from Measures R & M, designed to avoid needing federal
funds.
Safety improvements: Upgrades the existing freight corridor with modern
crossings and barriers. Improves biking and walking conditions along the corridor.
